Layers:
A layer is 1 cake stacked on another cake with icing in between. You can have 1, 2 or 3 layers.

Tiers:
A tier is a layered cake stacked on top of another layered cake, usually a different size.
Double Barrel cake:
A layer cake stacked on the same size layer cake

How much cake do I need?
Typically, you can estimate the number of servings needed by approximating that 75 to 85 percent of your guests will enjoy a piece of cake
